BACKGROUND NOTE

Casper had its origins in 2013 when four individuals, Philip Krim (Krim), Neil Parikh (Parikh), Luke Sherwin (Sherwin), and Gabriel Flateman (Flateman), met at a co-working space in New York. Parikh, Sherwin, and Flateman had attended Brown University together and started an e-commerce company called Consignd. Krim had the experience of running an e-commerce venture which sold any product, including mattresses, which could be bought in bulk from a vendor and delivered directly from the factory to the customer. The four men, having observed the other workers in the co-working space being short of sleep, discussed their own sleeping habits. The conversation subsequently veered toward how purchasing a mattress in a store was a terrible experience..
